APRIL 2011 UPDATE:  Little Nano broke her right leg after her broken left leg had healed.  She has gone in for Major Orthropedic Surgery to repair the now broken rear right leg.  Nano has been put on Calcium Gluconate to help build her little bones but is having to be monitored closely to ensure she does not get too much.

The surgery on her right leg was $2000.00 and we need help with raising funds to cover this.  Please consider donating/sponsoring Nano so we may help more little animals that need medical care.

FEBRUARY UPDATE:  We have all been amazed at Nano’s survival of being totally emaciated, dehydrated and having a broken leg.  Well, we are all surprised, once again, by little Nano!  During our discussion of having Nano neutered we discovered that Nano will have to be spayed.  Yes, Nano is a GIRL, not a boy as first thought.

It is typical when you have an orange tabby to automatically assume they are male because 85% of all orange tabbies are male.  There is still that 15% chance that they can be female.

Nano’s will to live along with the 15% chance that she would be a girl truly makes this little kitty very SPECIAL.

Once Nano was cleared by our veterinarians for release outside of a cage it was quite entertaining.  She stood up on both back legs and then jumped into the middle of kittens twice her size.  She was quite rough with them.  The other kitties began to teach her how to play without hurting each other.

After 48 hours of spending time and learning with a few of the other kittens, Nano settled right in and now plays very nicely without being rough.  She climbs into her foster mom’s lap for loving, and if a lap is not available then she climbs up on her shoulder where she will lay and purr so loud that others can hear her when her foster mom is on the telephone.

January 12, 2011 UPDATE:

Nano went to the vet today for an examination and x-ray of his little leg.  Our Veterinarian assures us that Nano's broken leg is now healed.  He has been released into the rest of the house to run, jump and play with the other kitties.  Nano is having a blast and is getting the well-needed socialization with the other kitties.  His total vet bill is a little over $1000.00.  Paws is still in need of donations to cover Nano's hospital stay.  Nano will be neutered in approximately 2 weeks.

December 13, 2010:

Nano’s mom gave birth to 3 kittens in the loft of a horse barn.  When Nano was found he was down where the horses stay and his two siblings were dead.  Nano was in really bad shape.  He was dehydrated, underweight, hungry and had a badly broken left rear leg.

The barn owner phoned one of our Volunteers asking if we could come and pick him up because he was injured and appeared to be dying.  Paws’ Volunteer, Debbi, picked him up and immediately took him to our Veterinarians.

Our veterinarians did not know if little Nano would survive.  He was so very tiny and emaciated.  After a few days of veterinary care he became stronger and so they decided to try and put him under anesthesia so they could pin his broken femur bone in hopes of preventing further damage to the leg.

Pinning the bone and wrapping the leg up against his little body has stabilized the bone where it can heal properly.  He has to stay at the clinic so they can monitor his leg for infection.

Paws is again in need of donations to help us pay for Nano’s surgery and hospital care.  It has been two weeks of hospital care since his surgery and he may be hospitalized for 2-3 more weeks before he can come home.

Nano will be available for adoption as soon as he is neutered.
